Montclair, NJ – Senior attack
Sam Morrissey (Hackettstown, NJ, West Morris Central) scored six goals and added two assists as 14th-ranked Montclair State registered the third-highest single-game offensive scoring output in program history as the Red Hawks opened up Skyline Conference action with a 27-5 victory over Mount St. Mary on Saturday afternoon.

Marc Scoran (Old Bridge, NJ, Old Bridge) scored five times while sophomore
Zach Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) added three goals and two assists helping the five-time defending league champions improve to 8-1 on the season (1-0 Skyline).
The 27 goals by Montclair State were the most since April 8, 2000 when the Red Hawks registered a 28-3 win at City College of New York. The single-game record is 35 set in April 1979 also against CCNY. Eleven different players scored in the game, including two goals each by
Brett Mangan (Maplewood, NJ, Columbia),
Connor Rich (Roxbury, NJ, Roxbury) and
Joel Van Der Wal (Columbia, NJ, North Warren).
Alex Hahn (Hackettstown, NJ, Pope John XXIII) and defenseman
Ryan Totin (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) each scored in the first four minutes giving Montclair a 2-0 lead before the Knights answered with a man-up goal with 9:25 left. It would be all MSU the rest of the period as Mangan had a hand in the next three sandwiching his two goals around one from defender
Blake Vernam (Ringoes, NJ, Hunterdon Central). Van Der Wal scored with 10 seconds to go before the end of the period as Montclair led 6-1.
Morrissey scored three times and Scoran twice in the second period as the Red Hawks extended their lead to 13-2 at halftime. MSU then blew the game wide open in the third outscoring Mount St. Mary, 9-1. Scoran had three of those goals with Morrissey and Schreck picking up two each for a 22-3 lead at the end of three quarters.
Montclair State, which took 69 shots in the game, held a hefty advantage in the faceoff department winning 23-of-35 in the game.
Brad Pietrucha (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) was 17-of-24 with a team-best 11 ground balls while
Blase Mantineo (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) went 5-of-9 with three ground balls. Defenders
Kiel Dietrich (Andover, NJ, Newton) and
Ryan Young (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) had five and four caused turnovers respectively with Young posting seven ground balls. Zach Schreck and
Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central), who recorded three assists, had four ground balls apiece.
Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, April 2 hosting Richard Stockton in a Skyline Conference matchup at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm. It will be the Red Hawks' charity contest of the 2014 season as proceeds from the game will go toward Lax for Autism.
