Women's Lacrosse Off to Best Start in History After MSU Knocks Off FDU-Florham, 16-3

Crampton Four Goals, Conlon Eight Points as MSU Moves to 9-0

Madison, NJ – Junior attack Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) scored three times and added four assists while sophomore Kara Crampton (Kinnelon, NJ, Kinnelon) netted a game-high four goals as Montclair State is now off to the best start in program history following a 16-3 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday.

Senior Kelly Schoneveld (Denville, NJ, Morris Knolls) had three goals for now 9-0 MSU, which surpassed the previous start of the 2004 team which opened that season with eight consecutive victories.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 halftime lead. Nicole Francis (Toms River, NJ, Toms River North) and Francesca Verrone (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) scored in the first eight minutes for a 2-0 advantage. After the Devils cut the deficit in half, Crampton started a seven-goal run by Montclair scoring twice in a span of 42 seconds making the score 4-1 with 18:40 left.  Conlon set up Kasey Maguire (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) for the next goal and then registered her first with 8:07 left for a 6-1 lead.

Schoneveld and Conlon scored 64 seconds apart pushing the lead to seven goals before Vanessa Rey (Toms River, NJ, Toms River North) capped the spurt with 1:14 left.

Montclair would put another run together to open the second half. Verrone collected her second and Conlon tallied her third of the game with 23:40 left for an 11-2 advantage. Crampton, Schoneveld and Maguire each scored as the Red Hawks led 14-2 with 17:38 remaining.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alexandra Tepper (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) made eight saves for Montclair State which got four ground balls apiece from Tepper and Maguire. Conlon had a pair of draw controls with Verrone forcing a pair of turnovers.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, April 2 on the road at the University of Scranton in a 7:00 pm start.
