Montclair, NJ – Sophomore
Don Finn (Wall, NJ, Christian Brothers Academy) scored four times while seniors
Sam Morrissey (Hackettstown, NJ, West Morris Central) and
Marc Scoran (Old Bridge, NJ, Old Bridge) each netted three goals as No. 12 Montclair State posted its sixth straight victory, rolling past Maritime College, 20-2 on Wednesday evening.
Senior
Joel Van Der Wal (Columbia, NJ, North Warren),
Brett Mangan (Maplewood, NJ, Columbia),
Michael Jevic (Voorhees, NJ, Eastern Regional) and
Connor Rich (Roxbury, NJ, Roxbury) each had two goals for the Red Hawks, who upped their record to 12-1 on the season while remaining unbeaten in the Skyline Conference at 5-0.
Montclair exploded for 11 goals in the first period. Scoran got the first 1:11 into the game and Finn scored back-to-back goals 55 seconds apart for a 3-0 advantage with 10:35 left. Rich fired a shot into the upper corner of the net two minutes later and Finn's third of the game with 7:04 remaining made the score 5-0.
Van Der Wal scored exactly a minute later and Mangan followed with consecutive scores before Rich scored again with 1:56 to go. Finn collected his fourth goal of the period with 43 seconds to play and Jevic scored with five seconds left for the 11-0 lead after one quarter.
Jevic opened the scoring in the second period and Morrissey had three straight near the midpoint of the period extending the lead to 17-0. Van Der Wal closed out the half with his second goal with 24 seconds left as Montclair State led 18-0.
Alex Hahn (Hackettstown, NJ, Pope John XXIII) had a man-up goal with 6:41 remaining in the third before the Privateers finally broke through with four minutes to go on a goal by Andrew Scalesi.
Michael Schreck (Flemington, NJ, Hunterdon Central) had a goal and two assists for the Red Hawks while defensemen
Robert Snow (Ledgewood, NJ, Roxbury) and
Len Bellezza (Plainsboro, NJ, West Windsor-Plainsboro South) forced three turnovers each. Goalkeeper
Michael Dorn (Blairstown, NJ, North Warren) stopped two shots in 39 minutes of action with
Andrew Bryant (Montclair, NJ, Montclair) making one.
MSU returns to action on Saturday, April 19 with a road contest at Albright College. Faceoff in Reading, PA is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
