Montclair, NJ – Junior attack Becca Wood (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) scored five times while sophomore Cat Luick (Tinton Falls, NJ / Red Bank Catholic) and Rachel Emerson (Moorestown, NJ / Moorestown) each added four as third-seeded Rowan University knocked off second-seeded Montclair State 15-4 in the semifinals of the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Championship at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.
Junior midfielder Jamie Blondina (Toms River, NJ / Toms River South) had two and an assist as the Profs (13-4), who won their sixth straight, advanced to the inaugural championship game of the tournament on Saturday, May 3. Rowan will face top-seeded The College of New Jersey.
Sophomore midfielder
Kasey Maguire (Marlton, NJ, Cherokee) had two goals for the Red Hawks (15-2), who must now wait to see if it can earn one of the at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship. Montclair entered the day ranked fourth in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings with Rowan at No. 5. Selections will be announced on Sunday, May 4 at 9:30 pm on NCAA.com.
The Profs fell to the Red Hawks 14-11 on April 19, but this time around jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first seven-plus minutes of the game. Wood scored the first goal and Blondina and Luick scoring 25 seconds apart to make the score 3-0 before Luick added her second with 22:44 left.
Montclair State got on the board five minutes later as freshman
Francesca Verrone (Flanders, NJ, Mount Olive) scored off an assist from
Tierney Conlon (Caldwell, NJ, Caldwell) however Luick netted her third for a 5-1 Rowan lead.
Maguire got one back for MSU with 12:09 left however the Profs tallied the last three goals of the half, the final one by Luick with 36 seconds to go for an 8-2 lead at the break.
Rowan led 10-3 in the second half before Maguire's second goal got Montclair within six goals with just over 20 minutes left. But Wood scored three straight and Emerson the final two in a 5-0 run by the Profs to close out the game.
Defender Lauren Callaghan had an assist along with a game-high six draws and three ground balls for Rowan. Blondina had a pair of caused turnovers in addition to four ground balls. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Barrie (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) made 10 saves and recorded four ground balls.

Brittany Cardone (New Egypt, NJ, New Egypt) forced three turnovers for Montclair State while
Krissa Henderson (Landing, NJ, Roxbury) and Maguire each caused two. Conlon and
Nicole Francis (Toms River, NJ, Toms River North) posted three ground balls apiece.
