Angela Campo (Washington Township, NJ, Westwood) collected a double-double of 25 assists and 13 digs in addition to four service aces while sophomore
Melissa Terpstra (Midland Park, NJ, Midland Park) posted six kills and 13 digs.
The Red Hawks (1-0), who won their season opener for just the second time in the last seven years, captured the first set 26-24 before Colby-Sawyer battled back for a 25-19 win in the second to tie the match. Montclair reversed the score in the third (25-19) for the 2-1 lead and closed out the victory with a 30-28 triumph in the fourth set.
Freshman
Hayley Merrill (West Windsor, NJ, West Windsor-Plainsboro South) posted nine kills and an pair of blocks in her collegiate debut with sophomore
Kimberly Matlock (Jackson, NJ, Jackson Memorial) registering 16 assists. Freshman
Lily Scanzillo (Upper Saddle River, NJ, Northern Highlands), who took over for all-time digs leader Kaitlyn Irwin as the libero, posted a match-high 22 digs in her first career match.
MSU continues action in the Bear Invitational on Saturday, August 30. Montclair takes on Suffolk University at 1:00 pm before meeting the host Bears at 3:00 pm.
