Shawna Grabowski (Woodbridge, NJ, Woodbridge) collected two goals while senior
Francesca Gibson (Cape May, NJ, Lower Cape May Regional) tallied a goal and two assists leading Montclair State to a 6-0 victory over FDU-Florham at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.
Martina Landeka (Westfield, NJ, Westfield),
Tyler Madison (Parsippany, NJ, Parsippany Hills) and
Daniella Greco (Bridgewater, NJ, Bridgewater-Raritan) each scored goals as the Red Hawks (5-1) won their fifth straight with their fifth consecutive shutout and 23rd in the last 26 contests dating back to the start of last season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Annie George (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) made five saves for the Devils (2-3-1).
Applying plenty of pressure early, the Red Hawks put a goal on the board in the 22nd minute as Landeka notched her fourth goal of the season taking a cross from
Janae Geonnetti (Mount Laurel, NJ, Paul VI) in the middle of the box before depositing the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 Montclair State advantage.
Grabowski extended the lead with her two goals 52 seconds part. The first came at 29:33 as she corralled a deflected shot by
Melissa Koster (Yardville, NJ, Steinert) and blasted it past George for the two-goal advantage. Gibson set up the second with a pass from the top right corner of the box making its 3-0 in favor of the Red Hawks, a lead they would take into halftime.
In the second half, Madison picked up her second goal of the season.
Kimberly Mignone (Chestnut Ridge, NY, Paramus Catholic) drilled a shot from the top of the box on the left side that banged off the crossbar, bouncing out to the right side where Madison put back the carom for the goal at 60:17.
Greco recorded the fifth goal for MSU at 74-24 finishing off a long feed from Gibson before the two reversed the scoring sequence on the final score with 27 seconds remaining.
Senior
Gina Policastro (East Brunswick, NJ, East Brunswick) and sophomore
Meghan Calcaterra (Madison, NJ, Madison) combined on the shutout for Montclair State with Calcaterra coming up with a save late in the second half.
Montclair State outshot FDU-Florham, 26-4 and also took seven of the nine corner kicks in the contest.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, September 20 when it opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play. MSU, the preseason No. 1 in the league, heads to New Jersey City University for an 11:00 am matchup with the Gothic Knights.
