Meet Results
Wayne, NJ - The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their dual meet schedule on Saturday with a sweep of local rival William Paterson at the Wightman Pool. The Red Hawks (3-9, 1-3 NJAC) men posted a 175-118 victory while the women (5-5-1, 2-2 NJAC) triumphed over the Pioneers, 152-120.
BLAIR FRANTZ,
TORI HOLZBERG and
KATHERINE LACAVA were each double winners for the women's team which captured nine events in the meet, including five 1-2-3 finishes.
SAMUEL MITCHELL was victorious in the one and three-meter diving events while
DAN KNEPPLE and freshman
STEVEN ROTH each had two individual victories for MSU as the men also won nine events.
The MSU women got off to a great start as the 200 medley relay team of
ERIN CANNON,
JESSICA JOSEPH, LaCava and
SAMANTHA DOWD posted a time of 1:58.76 to claim the top spot. Frantz led the first of 1-2-3 finishes for Montclair in the 1000 freestyle swimming 11:28.96.
ASHLEY SINGEWALD and
CATHERINE O'KANE were second and third, respectively with times of 11:47.97 and 12:26.58. Junior
SYDNEY STEIN led the same showing in the 200 freestyle taking the top spot in a time of 2:05.03 clocking in just ahead of
CHRISTINE WERNER (2:05.96). Cannon was third at 2:10.72.
Holzberg collected the first of her two wins in the 100 backstroke posting a time of 1:07.27. LaCava had her first victory in the 200 butterfly (2:16.54) with
KARA O'SULLIVAN and
ALLISON BARTH coming in with times of 2:20.65 and 2:30.91, respectively. Joseph led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 freestyle posting a time of 26.19 seconds.
KATHLEEN FRENCH and
KIM TORRES were right behind at 26.84 seconds and 27.99 seconds. Holzberg won a tightly-contested 100 freestyle edging out Singewald (1:00.99) and Torres (1:01.21) with a time of 1:00.11.Â
Frantz added her second victory in the 200 backstroke (2:23.19) with LaCava rounding out the day for the MSU women with a win in the 500 freestyle (5:32.39).
Mitchell took the one-meter diving event with a score of 200.47 points with
GREG BAUWENS coming in second at 193.50 points. The two held the same positions in the three-meter with Mitchell scoring 213.22 points to Bauwens' 172.57 points. Knepple recorded the first of his wins in the 1000 freestyle swimming 10:57.46 with
BRIAN UBHAUS coming in second at 11:11.68.
ANDREW DAMATO swam 11:15.22 to give Montclair a sweep of the Top 3 spots.Â
NICANDRO DONADIO captured the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:50.72 and Roth earned his first win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.43 seconds.
MARK DAWES was a winner in the 50 freestyle (50.71 seconds) with Roth and Knepple adding win in the 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle, respectively. Roth posted a time of 2:06.49 to win the backstroke while Knepple led a 1-2-3 finish by the Red Hawks in the 500 freestyle. Knepple swam 5:10.78 with Damato and
KEVIN KOLESA finishing second and third with time of 5:14.01 and 5:14.78.
Dawe,
DEVON D'AGOSTA, Donadio and
BRENDAN TURNER got the final win for MSU in the 400 freestyle relay as the quartet swam 3:28.75.
Montclair State is now off until Friday, February 20 when it competes in the 2015 Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Championships at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
