Swarthmore, PA – Senior SHAWNA GRABOWSKI scored in the 15th minute as Montclair State upset 13th-previously unbeaten and 13th-ranked Swarthmore College, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman ERINNE FINLAYSON made two saves in recording her xx shutout of the year as the Red Hawks improved to 13-2-2 overall with their xx straight win

Grabowski registered the only score of the game at the 14:09 mark with ERIN SULLIVAN picking up the assist. Off a restart 35 yards away from the goal, Sullivan served the ball into the box where Grabowski was able to flick a header into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

The goal came after the Garnet's Reba Maiger made back-to-back saves against KENDEL BERNARDINI and TYLER MADISON, who was denied again by Maiger at the 17:48 mark.

Meanwhile the Red Hawks defense held Swarthmore to just two shots in the first half. Cappy Pitts went wide on a shot at 29:34 and Finlayson made a save on Katie Dougherty's attempt at the 31-minute mark.

In the second half, Swarthmore appeared to tie the game at Dougherty headed in a ball however the goal was waved off as the Garnet were offside on the play. Despite outshooting MSU 8-4 in the second half, Swarthmore managed just one shot of goal and that came with 22:18 left. Mele Johnson sent an attempt on goal that Finlayson secured keeping MSU in front.

Dougherty gave the Garnet one last chance but her shot with three seconds to play went wide.

Finlayson registered her seventh shutout of the season and the 11th of the year by MSU, which has not allowed a goal in its last three games.

The Red Hawks will now turn their attention to Wednesday, October 28 as they travel to Rutgers-Newark in their final regular-season contest (7:00 pm).
