Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams suffered dual meet losses to The College of New Jersey at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Friday evening.
The Red Hawk men (1-2) fell to the Lions 193-97 while the women (1-2) suffered a 196-97 setback against TCNJ.
Senior
SYDNEY STEIN won three events for MSU sweeping the long distance freestyle events. Stein swam 11:07.26 capturing the 1000 free as she lead a 1-2 finish by MSU.
BLAIR FRANTZ was second in a time of 11:40.95. Stein would added a victory in the 200 freestyle (2:01.84) before coming back to lead a 1-2-3 showing by Montclair in the 500 freestyle. Stein posted a time of 5:27.23 with Frantz coming in second at 5:42.29.
COURTNEY MUNRO was third in a time of 5:44.66.
KATHERINE LACAVA recorded a victory in the 200 butterfly at 2:21.36 with
ERIN CANNON taking top honors in the 200 backstroke (2:17.55). Cannon was third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.10) with
TORI HOLZBERG taking third in the 200 IM (2:24.62) and the 200 backstroke (2:19.86).
ALLISON BARTH was third in the 100 buttefly in a time of 1:06.34.
SAMANTHA DOWD, Stein,
ALYSON GAWIN and Holzberg combined for a time of 3:56.07 to take second in the 400 freestyle relay.
For the men, freshman
CHARLES COBBERTT was the lone first-place finisher for MSU winning the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:46.07. Cobbertt also finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.00) with
MARK DAWES taking the same spot in the 200 butterfly (2:06.04) and the 100 freestyle (50.10 seconds).
JAMES SINGEWALD finished second in the 100 backstroke (55.08 seconds) with
KEVIN CLAUSS (2:17.16),
MITCHELL LAYNE (5:06.92) and
KEVIN HENNINGSEN (56.26 seconds) each doing the same in the 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly, respectively. Clauss was also second in the 200 IM at 2:05.73.
Layne was third in the 1000 freestyle at 10:29.50 with
DAN KNEPPLE placing thid in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.51). Clauss was third in the 100 backstroke (58.01 seconds).
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI was third in the 200 IM posting a time of 2:10.53.
Cobbertt, Dawes,
KAYVON JAHANBAKHSH and Romanowski swam 3:21.80 to finish second in the 400 freestyle relay.
Montclair State goes right back to work on Saturday, October 24 taking part in the Union Relays at Union College in Schenectady, NY.
