Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams each evened their records at 2-2 on the season as the Red Hawks swept past Adelphi University at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Saturday.
Senior
SYDNEY STEIN won three events helping the women's team to a 131-123 win over the Panthers. The men got two individual victories from freshmen
JAMES SINGEWALD,
KEVIN CLAUSS,
MITCHELL LAYNE and
CHARLES COBBERTT in a 147-106 triumph.
Stein won both long distance freestyle events and added a third in the 200 freestyle. She swam 11:11.08 to win the 1000 free and posted a time of 5:27.99 in the 500 free before capping her day with a time of 2:03.23 in the 200 freestyle.
ERIN CANNON swept the backstroke events taking the 100 in a time of 1:04.42 before leading a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 event clocking in at 2:19.41.
COURTNEY MUNRO and
NATALIE WALL were second and third respectively with times of 2:22.03 and 2:25.25.
KATHERINE LACAVA did the same in the 200 fly as she swam 2:23.68 to take top honors.
ALLISON BARTH was second (2:33.47) with
KIM TORRES coming in third at 2:34.28.
SAMANTHA DOWD was victorious in the 50 freestyle taking the evening in a time of 26.63 seconds.
The men had four 1-2-3 finishes on their side of the meet starting with the 1000 freestyle as Layne won the evening in a time of 10:49.93 with
FRANCIS PINO coming second (10:41.99) and
BRIAN UBHAUS third (11:14.90). Singewald swam 56.37 seconds to win the 100 backstroke as
STEVEN ROTH (57.81) and
ANDREW HENDERSON (58.84 seconds) went second and third respectively.
Singewald, Henderson and Roth were 1-2-3 in the 200 backstroke. Singewald posted a time of 2:03.79 while Henderson swam 2:05.81 and Roth 2:09.00.
Cobbertt won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:48.58 and later took the top spot in the 100 freestyle (49.16 seconds). Clauss swept the backstroke events winning the 100 in a time of 1:02.97 and the 200 event at 2:19.80. Layne led another 1-2-3 placing by Montclair State in the 500 freestyle. Layne swam 5:06.54 with
NICANDRO DONADIO coming in second at 5:12.35. Pino was third in a time of 5:13.07.
Singewald, Clauss and Cobbertt combined with Roth to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:40.85.
Montclair State returns to action on Friday, November 6 hosting Drew University at the Panzer Pool beginning at 5:00 pm.
