Volleyball Loses Final Regular-Season Contests

Red Hawks Fall to NYU, Rochester in NY Regional Challenge

Rochester, NY – The Montclair State volleyball team closed out its regular season on Saturday with a pair of losses at the New York State Regional Challenge. MSU fell in five sets to New York University before suffering a 3-0 defeat against University of Rochester.

MSU (17-13) suffered its second loss of the year against the Violets (14-16) as the teams split the first two sets with NYU winning 25-22 in the first and 25-18 in the third while Montclair recorded a 25-21 victory in the second and 25-11 in the fourth. NYU captured the match with a 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set.

Freshman NATALIA MAJKUT and junior COURTNEY MATLOCK had 10 kills apiece for MSU with NIKKI SENOPOULOS added nine along with a pair of aces. Sophomore LILY SCANZILLO and freshman APRIL DIANGELO had 20 and 16 assists respectively while libero DANIELLE OLCESE totaled 25 digs. Matlock made it a double-double performance adding 14 digs.

Senopoulos had a double-double of her own in the loss to Rochester with 10 kills and 14 digs as the Red Hawks fell to the Yellowjackets 25-17, 25-22, 25-21. REBECCA MATASKER had five kills and MADISON MAUTE four for Montclair State which got 16 assists from DiAngelo and 11 by Scanzillo. Olcese had 15 digs.

Montclair State now turns its attention to the NJAC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, November 3. The second-seeded Red Hawks have a first-round bye and will host either Kean or Rutgers-Camden at the Panzer Athletic Center on Thursday, November 5 at 7:00 pm.
