Montclair, NJ - The Red Hawks will look to turn their first victory of the season into a winning streak as Montclair State heads out on the road to Virginia to face Southern Virginia University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
Montclair got into the win column in a big way last week with a resounding 64-7 win over William Paterson much to the delight of the nearly 5,000 in attendance for the annual Homecoming Game. The Red Hawks put forth the fourth-highest single-game point total as they limited their local rival to just 84 yards of total offense.
AARON WILLIAMS hauled in a pair of touchdown passes while freshman running back
WILLIE BARR ran for a pair of scores. Senior
ERIC GARGIULO returned an interception for a score while Jaquan Spann ran back a punt for a touchdown as Montclair scored the first 57 points of the game, including a 21-point second quarter.
It's a short turnaround for Southern Virginia as the Knights will play their second game in a five-day span. SVU fell to nationally-ranked Wesley on Monday afternoon, 59-6 in a game that was rescheduled due to the massive rainstorm that blanked most of the Delmarva penninsula last weekend. Quarterback Crosby Jensen threw for 95 yards, 43 of them to wide receiver Collin Pearson. The Knights Jared Watts ran the ball 13 times for 27 yards. Chris Owens, who had his third career interception, forced and recovered a fumble for SVU. Owens recorded three solo tackles.
