No. 12 Women's Basketball Rolls to Second Straight Victory, 67-40

Sire Records 2nd Double-Double as MSU Beats Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY – Sophomore forward KATIE SIRE registered her second double-double in as many days as 12th-ranked Montclair State rolled to its second straight win with a 67-40 win over Vassar College on Monday evening.

Sophomore guard KATE TOBIE added 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Red Hawks (2-0) made it back-to-back wins in a span of a little more than 24 hours. Montclair pulled away in the second half to defeat Ithaca College 77-62 late Sunday afternoon.

Sire, who finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, scored six in the first quarter as Montclair State jumped out to a 14-4 lead. After Vassar scored the first points of the game, RACHAEL KRAUSS drained a three-pointer with 5:57 left giving Montclair the lead. Sire added a layup and jumper from ZOE CURTIS a minute later boosted the lead to 8-2. Sire scored the next four MSU points before TAYLOR HARMON closed out the period with a basket as MSU led by 10 after one period.

In the second, Vassar (0-1) got the lead under double digits three times, the last coming at 20-12 on two fouls shot by Rose Serafini. But Montclair scored the last seven points, including the last five from KAYLA CEBALLOS and took a 27-12 lead into the break.

Montclair State held Vassar to just 4-of-25 shooting in the first half and forced the Brewers into 11 turnovers.

The Red Hawks blew the game wide open in the third quarter outscoring the hosts 26-11. Sire and Tobie had six points each while Ceballos and Harmon scored four as Montclair State led 53-23.

Ceballos finished with nine points while Harmon had eight for MSU which got five points and six rebounds from SAGE BENNETT. ZOE CURTIS chipped in with seven points and freshman FAITH ASHBY scored five points.

The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, November 21 when they open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play. MSU will host The College of New Jersey at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 3:00 pm.
