Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team's bid for a third NJAC Championship came up short on Wednesday evening as the third-seeded and ninth-ranked Red Hawks fell to second-seeded Rowan University, 2-0.
It was the second time in four games that MSU (15-5) fell to the Profs and the second straight season that Montclair's NJAC Tournament run ended with a loss to Rowan. The Red Hawks, who were ranked second in the NCAA Regional Rankings, must now wait to the NCAA Tournament selection announcement which will be on Sunday, November 8.
Scoreless through the first 27 minutes, the Profs broke through at the 27:31 mark. Off a penalty corner, junior Jacqui Rosato tapped in a loose ball on the right side giving Rowan the 1-0 lead. The Profs took advantage of another penalty corner to widen its lead early in the second half. Marisa Marini fed Abbie Tucker, who blasted a shot from the left side making the score 2-0.
Rowan outshot Montclair State 10-8.
