Montclair, NJ - The final road trip for Montclair State takes place this Saturday as the Red Hawks trek the 309 miles out to the Maryland panhandle to face Frostburg State in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup.
MSU (3-5, 3-4 NJAC) dropped its second straight contest last week as fourth-ranked Wesley College handed the Red Hawks a 56-22 defeat at Sprague Field. The Wolverines scored on their first three possession before Montclair got on the board.
RYAN DAVIES connected with
JULANEE PRINCE on a 43-yard touchdown late in the first. Davies would throw for 190 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Linebacker
MICHAEL TENPENNY led the defense with 13 tackles while
BILL SHIMKO (forced fumble, 2 breakups) and
MICHAEL KLIMEK added 12 and 10, respectively .
Frostburg State (6-2, 5-2 NJAC) had its five-game winning streak come to end last Saturday with a 15-6 defeat at Rowan. FSU scored first in the opening quarter and clung to the lead until Rowan's 15 second-half points. The Bobcats scored first when freshman Connor Cox connected with freshman tailback Gavin Lavat for a 37-yard touchdown with eight minutes left in the first quarter. It's the fourth-straight game that Cox has thrown for a touchdown and Lavat's first receiving touchdown of the season.
This will be the sixth meeting between the Red Hawks and Bobcats in a series that began in 1962 and has had two lengthy hiatuses. The first was a 40-year gap which ended in 2002 and the teams met in each of the next four seasons until the series was put on hold again following the 2005 campaign.
