Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams each picked up their second consecutive dual meet victories on Friday evening as the Red Hawks swept past Drew University at the Panzer Athletic Pool.
The MSU women captured six events in posting a 114-67 victory while the men also claimed six events in a 108-53 win. Both teams are now 3-3 overall.
CHARLES COBBERTT,
DAN KNEPPLE,
KEVIN HENNINGSEN and
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI got Montclair off to a fast start as they combined to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:42.84. Knepple then led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle posting a time of 10:32.06.
NICANDRO DONADIO and
MICHAEL TOY were second and third, respectively at 10:49.58 and 11:00.09.
KEVIN KOLESA (1:58.42) and
BRENDAN TURNER (1:55.86) claimed the top two spots in the 200 freestyle with Cobbertt (23.15) and
GREG HOUCK (24.55) doing the same in the 50 freestyle. Henningsen added an individual victory in the 200 IM as he clocked in a 2:08.04.
MICHAEL PACHECO and
BRIAN UBHAUS swam 2:12.21 and 2:12.46 for second and third respectively.
Montclair claimed the top three spots in the 200 butterfly as Mar Dawes swam 2:05.88 to win the event with
MITCHELL LAYNE taking second and 2:07.53 and Henningsen coming in third at 2:18.22. Romanowski won the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.10 seconds with
ANDREW DAMATO taking second at 53.12 seconds.
On the women's side,
KATHERINE LACAVA led a 1-2-3 Red Hawk showing in the 1000 freestyle. LaCava swam 11:27.07 with
BLAIR FRANTZ going 12:00.41 to place second.
CHRISTINA VICK was third at 12:08.17.
SAMANTHA DOWD and
KIM TORRES were first and second respectively in the 50 freestyle with times of 26.57 and 27.56.
SYDNEY STEIN took the top position in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.52.
COURTNEY MUNRO was second at 22:22.74 followed by
MARTHA PENDER at 2:30.63.
LaCava earned a second win in the 200 butterfly recording a time of 2:21.36. Torres was second at 2:32.79 with
ALLISON BARTH taking third at 2:34.04. Stein also became a double-winner taking the 100 freestyle in a time of 57.77 seconds. Munro was right behind at 58.60 seconds.
ALYSON GAWIN collected the final MSU victory swimming 5:42.62 to take the 500 freestyle.
ASHLEY SINGEWALD was second at 5:47.83.
The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, November 20 when they travel to Lancaster, PA for the three-day Franklin and Marshall Invite.
