No. 8/12 Women's Basketball Powers Past Ramapo, 64-39

Red Hawks Allow Season-Low for Points

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team, ranked No. 8 in Division III, used a smothering defense allowing a season-low for points as the Red Hawks raced past Ramapo College, 64-39 at the Bradley Center on Saturday afternoon.

KAYLA CEBALLOS scored 12 points with KATIE SIRE adding 11 as MSU (6-1), won its second straight and improved to 4-0 in the NJAC with the win.

Ceballos scored six of MSU's 19 points in the opening quarter helping the Red Hawks to a nine-point lead after one quarter. After trading points to start the game, Ceballos drilled a three-pointer with 7:05 left for a 6-4 Montclair State advantage. Sire added a jumper for a four-point lead and a three by RACHAEL KRAUSS with 1:40 to play put MSU in front 14-8. Sire scored once more before a Ceballos' third trifecta of the period gave Montclair a 19-10 lead after one.

The Red Hawks blew the game open in the second outscoring the Roadrunners 22-8, including the first 10 points of the period. ZOE CURTIS began the run with a three with another behind the arc from Ceballos extending the advantage to 27-10 with 7:47 to go before halftime. KATE TOBIE finished off the run with a free throw for MSU, which got a three-pointer from TAYLOR HARMON with 2:26 left making the score 37-12, Montclair's largest lead of the half as it would take a 41-23 lead into the locker room.

MSU shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the floor in the first half, including 7-of-15 (47 percent) from behind the arc. Meanwhile the Roadrunners were just 7-of-22 from the field (32 percent).
SAGE BENNETT finished with seven points and four rebounds for the Red Hawks who got five points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals from Tobie. ERICA SNOW had six points in a reserve role with YAZMINE LACEY pulling down a team-best eight rebounds.

Montclair State took advantage of 30 miscues by Ramapo turning them into 28 points.

Montclair returns to action on Wednesday, December 9 hosting William Paterson at the Panzer Athletic Center. Tipoff of the Red Hawks' NJAC contest is set for 6:00 pm.
