Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State softball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end as the Red Hawks were swept by Ramapo College on Saturday, 4-3 and 3-0.
The loss dropped the Red Hawks to 13-17 on the season, 5-9 in the NJAC. Ramapo upped its record to 22-9-1 overall, 11-2-1 in the conference.
In the opener, the Roadrunners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Melanie Walling singled back through the middle scoring Mikayla Melendez. The Red Hawks answered that in the top of the second as freshman
ALANA LUNA blasted a two-run homer giving MSU a 2-1 advantage.
The Roadrunners would tie the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI by Kim LaPenta and took the lead in the fourth as Melendez lofted a sacrifice fly with a second run coming home on an error for the 4-2 lead. Montclair would get a run back in the sixth when

LAUREN GUILLEN making it a one-run contest.
In the seventh, Montclair would get the tying run to second base however Katrina Buczkowski fanned the final batter to preserve the win for the Roadrunners.
Buczkowski (10-4) got the win as she allowed three runs and five hits in the complete-game effort. She struck out five. Powers took the loss and had two of Montclair State's five hits in the game.
In the second game, Ramapo's Christina Brizek (7-5) scattered six hits, struck out two and walked two in the shutout victory. Powers fell to 11-13 on the season as she gave up eight hits and three runs with four strikeouts.
The Roadrunners got the only run they would need in the first on a sacrifice fly by Walling. Jaclyn Lima tripled in a run in the second with Grace Brennan completing the scoring in the sixth with a solo home run.
Guillen finished 2-for-3 for Montclair State.
The Red Hawks return to the MSU Softball Stadium on Tuesday, April 21 as its hosts The College of New Jersey at 3:00 pm.
