Luna Blasts First Career Home Run

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State softball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end as the Red Hawks were swept by Ramapo College on Saturday, 4-3 and 3-0.

The loss dropped the Red Hawks to 13-17 on the season, 5-9 in the NJAC. Ramapo upped its record to 22-9-1 overall, 11-2-1 in the conference.

In the opener, the Roadrunners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Melanie Walling singled back through the middle scoring Mikayla Melendez. The Red Hawks answered that in the top of the second as freshman ALANA LUNA blasted a two-run homer giving MSU a 2-1 advantage.

The Roadrunners would tie the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI by Kim LaPenta and took the lead in the fourth as Melendez lofted a sacrifice fly with a second run coming home on an error for the 4-2 lead. Montclair would get a run back in the sixth when BROOKE POWERS singled driving home LAUREN GUILLEN making it a one-run contest.

In the seventh, Montclair would get the tying run to second base however Katrina Buczkowski fanned the final batter to preserve the win for the Roadrunners.
