Montclair, NJ – Freshman
KAILEY DALGAUER scored the go-ahead goal with 9:09 remaining capped a three-goal run as No. 12 Montclair State rallied for a 4-3 victory over Eastern University on Tuesday afternoon.
The second-half rally by the Red Hawks made for a successful debut by new head coach Eileen O'Reilly, who took over the program in June. O'Reilly had spent the past two seasons as an assistant with Montclair State.
The Eagles (0-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead 8:27 into the contest as Jess Kinzler scored the first of her two goals off a penalty corner. Later in the period, Dalgauer fired a shot that keeper Nicole Berger made a diving save on. Fortunately for MSU the rebound came right to
KAITLYN STRUSS who knocked the carom back in for a 1-1 tie with 10:48 to go.
Kinzler put Eastern back in front three minutes later which held up for the remainder of the period as Berger came up with four saves over the final seven-plus minutes of the half.
Trailing 2-1, Montclair fell behind further as the Eagles hit the back of the cage 41 seconds into the second half when Danielle Frasca tipped in a shot by Shannon Keliher. MSU would get a goal back with 26:18 to play.
JACINTA SANTOS collected a ball in the middle before lifting a shot over Berger pulling the Red Hawks within a goal.
Senior
MAURA JOHNSTON tied the game with 12:19 left as she finished off a feed from
KELLY KRAMER knotting the contest at 3-3. Dalgauer then gave Montclair the lead as she broke in along the left side and juked past Berger before lifting in the ball for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
