Montclair, NJ – Junior Raba Nassif (Northvale, NJ / NV-Old Tappan) had a hand in both goals, including the go-ahead score in the 62^nd minute as Stevens knocked No. 12 Montclair State 2-1 in the season opener for both teams at MSU Soccer Park on Tuesday evening.

Senior Carly Bean (Williamson, NY / Williamson) had an assist for the Ducks (1-0), who got the best of their in-state rival for the first time since 2010, snapping a three-game losing streak to the Red Hawks.

Junior ERIN SULLIVAN (Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan) scored for Montclair State (0-1), which lost its season opener by the identical score for the second consecutive season.

Stevens outshot the Red Hawks 6-2 in the first half and grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half with 18:55 remaining as Bean finished off a feed from Nassif for the 1-0 Ducks advantage. Montclair tied the match with exactly five minutes left in the opening period when Sullivan was able to slip a ball into the back of the next.

Each team had chances to take the lead in the second half however Stevens pulled in front as Nassif scored with 28:25 to go. MSU nearly tied the match with 18 minutes left as STEFANIE GOMES fired a shot that clanged off the crossbar.

Freshman goalkeeper MOLLY BARROW (Ramsey, NJ / Ramsey) made six saves in her collegiate debut.

Montclair State goes right back to MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday, September 2 hosting College of Mount St. Vincent at 7:00 pm.
