Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 Men's Soccer Returns Home, Rolls Past Farmingdale State, 8-1

Brown, Trought Each Score Twice as Red Hawks Up Record to 4-0

Montclair, NJ – Despite playing its second game in 36 hours and in a different state, the Montclair State men's soccer team showed no effects from its long travel as the 24th-ranked Red Hawks rolled to an 8-1 victory over Farmingdale State on Monday evening at MSU Soccer Park.

Junior forward KAZARI TROUGHT and sophomore ALAIN BROWN had two goals each off the bench as the Red Hawks (4-0), who scored six goals in the first half, posted a convincing victory fresh off their Tennessee trip over the weekend. Montclair knocked off Maryville (TN) on Sunday afternoon and then flew back home to New Jersey landing late on Sunday evening.

Senior midfielder J.T. Famularo (Levittown, NY / Island Trees) scored the lone goal for the Rams (0-2), who dropped their second straight in their first meeting with Montclair State since 2002.

Despite the wide-margin victory, the Red Hawks were actually on the defensive for the first shot of the game as Richard Mastrangelo (Dix Hills, NY / Half Hollow Hills West) headed a ball from close range that was stopped on a quick reaction by goalkeeper MIKE SAALFRANK in thr 13th minute. Montclair answered with two dangerous attempts two minutes later but Rams keeper Kevin Gordillo (Flushing, NY / Robert F. Kennedy) made a solid save against LUCAS TERCI and followed with a spectacular stop off the rebound by KYLE GOODWIN.

MSU broke through at the 17:58 mark as MIKE OLLA collected his fourth goal of the year finishing off a pass from RAFAEL TERCI for the game's first goal. The lead went to 2-0 nearly 10 minutes later as the Terci brothers combined on a goal for the second time this season. Rafael fed Lucas for the latter's second of the year.

KEVIN SIMEK made it a three-goal lead 1:58 later as he stole a clear and raced around a pair of defenders for the score. Montclair then caught a break as Goodwin raced along the left side of the box and fired a cross pass toward the middle that was accidentally kicked in by a defender for the own goal and a 4-0 Montclair lead with 22:42 left in the opening half.

Brown scored his first goal off an assist from Trought in the 39th minute and added his second three minutes later for the 6-0 halftime advantage.

MATT HENDRICKSON set up Trought for the first goal of the second before Famularo ended the MSU scoring run with his first goal of the season at 76:56. Trought completed the scoring with his second goal with 3:37 remaining.

Gordillo made five saves for the Rams while Saalfrank had just the one as Montclair outshot Farmingdale State 17-5 in the contest.

Montclair State will host Hunter College on Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm to wrap up a grueling opening week that will see the Red Hawks play five times in an eight-day span.
