Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving team made it's a successful Senior Day as the Red Hawks swept past local rival William Paterson at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool.
Each team picked up its first NJAC win of the season as the men registered a 158-127 victory while the women knocked off the Pioneers, 165-117. The men upped their record to 8-3 overall while the women are 7-3 with each moving to 1-2 in the conference.
MSU swept the 400 medley relay as the women's quartet of
ERIN CANNON,
ALLISON BARTH,
MARTHA PENDER and
TORI HOLZBERG clocking in at 4:23.28 while
JAMES SINGEWALD,
KEVIN CLAUSS,
STEVEN ROTH and
CHARLES COBBERTT combined on a time of 3:42.04. Holzberg led a 1-2-3 finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:50.91 with
KATHERINE LACAVA and
ASHLEY SINGEWALD coming in second and third, respectively (12:00.89 and 12:12.65).
DAN KNEPPLE finished first on the men's side in the event posting a time of 10:56.94.
The Red Hawks claimed the first three spots in each 200 freestyle race.
SYDNEY STEIN won the women's event with a time of 2:07.73.
SAMANTHA DOWD was second at 2:08.43 and
BLAIR FRANTZ third at 2:08.92. Cobbertt led the 1-2-3 for the men with a time of 1:55.24 with Kevin Kolsea second (11:55.48) and
NICANDRO DONADIO third (1:56.72).
Cannon took top honors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.07 while Clauss was a winner in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.32). LaCava claimed a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:25.98 with
MITCHELL LAYNE leading a sweep on the men's side with a time of 2:07.05. Dowd was a winner in the 50 freestyle (26.32 seconds) with
COURTNEY MUNRO and
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI sweeping the 100 freestyle with times of 59.57 and 49.58 seconds, respectively.
Cannon added her second win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:21.73 with Clauss adding to his victory total, winning the same event in a time of 2:23.92. Stein (5:42.58) and Layne (5:13.58) were each first in the 500 freestyle with Barth recording a win in the 100 butterfly (1.06.52).
The victories made it a successful send off for MSU's nine seniors competing in their final home meet – Holzberg, LaCava, Stein,

GREG HOUCK and
BRIAN UBHAUS.
Montclair State closes out its regular season on Sunday, January 31 with its final NJAC contest at Ramapo College. First event at the Bradley Center Pool is set for 1:00 pm.
