Madison, NJ – The near month-long layoff for the Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams proved to have no effect as the Red Hawks extended their respective winning streaks to four with a sweep of FDU-Florham on Monday afternoon.
Both teams, out of action since December 5, upped their records to 5-2 on the season as the men registered a 122-69 victory while the women won 126-62. MSU claimed 15 of the events contest with the women taking eight while the men notched victories in seven events.
TORI HOLZBERG,
KATHERINE LACAVA,
SYDNEY STEIN and
ALYSON GAWIN took top honors in the 200 medley relay swimming 2:05.84. Stein added a win in the 200 freestyle (2:05.93) with
KIM TORRES and
ASHLEY SINGEWALD coming in second and third respectively (2:09.66 and 2:11.90).
ERIN CANNON was victorious in the 50 freestyle (27.46) while
COURTNEY MUNRO captured first in the 200 individual medley at 2:27.57.
Torres led a 1-2-3 MSU finish in the 100 butterfly clocking in at 1:08.52.
SAMANTHA DOWD was second (1:09.24) with
MARTHA PENDER taking third in a time of 112.57.
BLAIR FRANTZ was a winner in the 100 freestyle (59.40 seconds) and Singewald collected a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:08.36). Frantz led another sweep, this one in the 500 freestyle as she posted a time of 5:43.14. Gawin was second at 5:46.83 with Dowd coming in third at 5:50.67.
STEVEN ROTH,
NICANDRO DONADIO,
ANDREW DAMATO and
BRENDAN TURNER teamed up for a win in the 200 medley relay as they timed in at 1:47.75.
DAN KNEPPLE led a 1-2-3 finish for the Red Hawks in the 1000 freestyle (10:44.48) with Donadio (10:47.34) and
MICHAEL PACHECO (11:23.80) finishing second and third respectively.
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI swam 23.08 seconds to capture the 50 freestyle and freshman
CHARLES COBBERTT posted a time of 2:07.36 in winning the 200 IM.
KEVIN HENNINGSEN won the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.81 seconds.
KEVIN CLAUSS swam 57.09 seconds to win the 100 backstroke. Cobbertt was second at 57.35 seconds with Romanowski going 58.13 seconds for a sweep of the Top 3 places. Roth,
JAMES SINGEWALD and
MICK VAN OOSTEN did the same in the 500 freestyle. Roth won with a time of 5:05.22 with Singewald and Van Oosten coming in at 5:14.33 and 5:42.16, respectively.
MSU is now off until Friday, January 15 when it travels to Newburgh, NY for a dual meet with Mount St. Mary College at 3:00 pm.
