CLAIRE LUIGARD won three individual events while
JAMES SINGEWALD added two individual victories as the Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Drew University on Friday evening.
Both teams improved to 2-1 on the year as the men posted a 169-103 triumph over the Rangers. Meanwhile the women pulled out a 146-136 victory on the final event of the evening.
Singewald got the men off to a great start swimming the leadoff leg of the 200 medley relay that top the top spot at 1:40.55.
DANIEL BORJAS,
STEVEN ROTH and
KEVIN GIBSON comprised the rest of the quartet.
MITCHELL LAYNE and
DAN KNEPPLE went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle with Layne edging out Knepple by .41 seconds. (10:31.15 to 10:31.46).
Singewald led a dominant showing by the Red Hawks in the 50 backstroke as MSU occupied the top four spots. Singewald swam 25.12 seconds with
CHARLES COBBERTT (26:04),
MICHAEL PACHECO (28.27) and
MYLES UPCHURCH (30.22) taking the next three positions, respectively. Borjas won the 50 breaststroke (28.24) with Roth (52.44 seconds) leading a 1-2-3 finish by MSU in the 100 butterfly.
Cobbertt also added victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle with times of 22.20 and 48.88 respectively, while
BENJAMIN HERNANDEZ took both diving sections with identical scores of 136.50 points. Roth made it a sweep of the backstroke with a win in the 100 (54.30 seconds) and Knepple swam 1:03.26 to capture the 100 breaststroke.
Luigard was the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay as she,
ERIN CANNON,
ALLISON BARTH and
CHRISTINA CUSMANO combined on a time of 1:55.23. She swept the breaststroke events taking the 50 in a time of 32.33 seconds and the 100 in 1:11.10.
MARTHA PENDER was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:16.94.
Luigard's final victory came in the 200 IM as she swam 2:16.44.
MARGAUX WINCHOCK won two events capturing the 200 freestyle (2:02.60) and the 50 free (25.42). Winchock then swam the leadoff leg of the 400 freestyle that helped clinch the meet for MSU. Winchock,
COURTNEY MUNRO, Cusmano and
MADISON FRANKE put together a time of 3:45.18.
The Red Hawks are back in the pool on Friday, October 28 in Ewing, NJ against The College of New Jersey with the dual meet set to being at 5:00 pm.
