New York, NY – The Montclair State volleyball team is heading into the NJAC Tournament on a winning streak. The Red Hawks closed out the New York Regional Challenge with wins over Buffalo State and RIT at Baruch College on Saturday.
MSU upped its record to 23-8 on the year, tying the single-season record for victories set two years ago (2014) in a 23-11 campaign.
The Red Hawks rolled past Buffalo State (6-25) as nine different players recorded kills in the 25-16, 25-12, 25-9 triumph. Senior
COURTNEY MATLOCK led the way with seven while
REBECCA MATASKER and
NATALIA MAJKUT each had six. Setter
ASHLEY GRIFFITH recorded 24 assists with
APRIL DIANGELO,
LILY SCANZILLO and
DANIELLE OLCESE each serving up two aces.
Olcese led MSU with 13 digs. Scanzillo and DiAngelo had seven apiece.
A quartet of players whose last named begin with the letter 'M' paced the MSU in its four-set win over RIT.
MADISON MAUTE,
HAYLEY MERRILL and Matlock each had eight kills with Majkut added seven in the 25-19, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23 victory.
Griffith had 35 assists, five aces and four digs while Olcese added a team-best 24 digs. Scanzillo chipped in with 11 digs and three aces while Maute (5) and Merrill (4) combined for nine blocks.
Montclair, seeded third in the NJAC Tournament, is set to face Rutgers-Newark in first-round action on Tuesday, November 1. First serve at the Panzer Athletic Center is set for 7:00 pm.
