KATE TOBIE scored 11 points as did sophomore guard
KIARRA DILLARD as No. 16 Montclair State cruised to a 65-32 victory over Hamilton College in the Williams Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday.
KATIE SIRE and
DOMONIQUE WIRSING each had eight points as the Red Hawks (3-0) used a strong first half, including a dominating second quarter to complete a two-game sweep in the tournament. Montclair topped host Williams 61-46 on Saturday.
MSU pulled away from Williams in its win on Saturday and used that momentum in the first quarter of Sunday's contest outscoring the Continental (0-2), 23-10. Tobie scored five of her 11 points in the first 2:21 of the game helping Montclair to a 9-0 lead.
ZOE CURTIS drained a three-pointer and five consecutive free throws extended the lead to 17-2 with 4:58 to play. Sire added a three-point play and a three-point bucket by Tobie closed out the period as Montclair State led 23-10.
The Red Hawks were just as dominating in the second period scoring 13 of the 14 points in the quarter holding Hamilton to 0-of-7 shooting while forcing seven turnovers which translated into seven of the 13 points for MSU. Dillard had eight of her 11 in the second, including a three points play with 1:06 to go as Montclair took a 36-11 lead into the locker room.
TAYLOR HARMON finished with seven points and four rebounds with Curtis totaling six points and a pair of rebounds. MSU got 34 points from its bench and turned 26 turnovers into 26 points.
Montclair State is back in action on Tuesday, November 22 when it opens up New Jersey Athletic Conference play. The Red Hawks will be at the Harwood Arena in Union, NJ taking on Kean University at 6:00 pm.
