Men's Soccer Reclaims NJAC Title; Earns NCAA Automatic Bid

Red Hawks Blank Rowan, 3-0 to Capture 12th Conference Crown

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State men's soccer team is back on top of the NJAC podium. The Red Hawks completed a dominant three-game sweep in the conference tournament following a 3-0 win over second-seeded Rowan on Friday evening.

JAKE SEAMAN and COLLIN MULLIGAN each scored goals as MSU (16-5-1) claimed its second league crown in the last three years and its 12th overall. Montclair, making its third straight title game appearance, also earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship.

Selections and pairings for the 2016 NCAA Tournament will be announced on Monday, November 7 at 1:00 pm on a live selection show on NCAA.com. Montclair State will be making its 17th NCAA
appearance including each of the last 11 campaigns.

MSU, which needed a win on the final day of the regular season just to qualify for the NJAC Tournament, outscored its opponents 9-2 in the three contests and avenged two of its losses during the
year, including a 4-3 setback against the Profs at home back on October 8.

Playing without two of its three top scorers as well as one of its starting defenders, the Red Hawks withstood a barrage of shots taken by Rowan with sophomore MIKE SAALFRANK making eight saves, three coming in the first half as the Profs (16-2-1) outshot Montclair, 14-2.

Despite being outshot by the wide margin, the Red Hawks had a 1-0 lead thanks in part to an own goal less than four minutes into the contest. The Rowan defense tried to head the ball out of harm's way however the ball caromed the other way into the net giving MSU the lead.

Saalfrank made that hold up with a save minutes later and added another with 25 minutes left. He added his third with 17 minutes to play and in between Montclair blocked several other attempts to take its one-goal lead into the break.

The tight defense continued into the second half giving Montclair a chance to extend its advantage which it did with 27:35 left. MIKE OLLA fired a shot that was saved by the Profs' Kyle Dennis. Seaman followed up the rebound and deposited it back into the net as MSU moved out to a 2-0 lead.

Saalfrank stopped two more shots and added a third with 19:44 to go before Mulligan widened the lead to 3-0 with 18:58 remaining as he blasted a kick from outside the box on the right side.

Dennis finished with four saves for Rowan, which finished with 29 shots compared to nine for MSU. The Profs also took six of the eight corner kicks in the game.
