Catalano Returns Fumble 33-Yards for MSU Touchdown

Montclair, NJ – Sopohmore quarterback Connor Cox threw for a pair of touchdowns and the Frostburg State defense shut down Montclair State in a 24-6 victory at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Isaac Robinson kicked a 40-yard field goal for the Bobcats (8-1, 7-1 NJAC), who remained in the hunt for the NJAC title with its seventh consecutive victory. Frostburg State is currently tied with Wesley College for first place however the Wolverines hold the tiebreaker thanks in part to their win over Frostburg back in September.

Linebacker NICK CATALANO returned a fumble 33 yards for a touchdown for Montclair, which dropped its second straight game. The Red Hawks are now 4-5 overall, 3-5 in the NJAC.

FSU intercepted three passes and held Montclair to just 78 yards of total offense with their special teams also providing a score in their second victory against the Red Hawks
in seven all-time meetings and their first since 2005.

Frostburg jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter capitalizing on two MSU miscues. The first came with 10:30 remaining when a mishandled snap on a punt gave the Bobcats the ball at the MSU 16. Jamaal Morant ran three times down to the 1 before Cox flipped a pass to Christian DiPaola for the touchdown with 8:30 remaining.

Next was the special teams' play as Dre'Quan Reed blocked a punt in the end zone that Malik Morris fell on for a 14-0 Frostburg advantage just past the midpoint of the opening quarter.

The defenses settled in after that with Montclair's making its big play in the second. Cox was sacked by MAURO ALTAMURA jarring the ball loose at the FSU 33. Catalano scooped up the ball and raced the other way for the touchdown helping MSU cut the lead to 14-6 with 6:22 to play before half halftime. It was the fourth fumble return for a touchdown for the Red Hawks this season.

Leading by eight in the third, the Bobcats turned one of their three picks into a score. Matt Capozza intercepted a pass and returned it to the MSU 27. Two plays later, Cox hit Russell Neverdon for a 27-yard touchdown pass extending the lead to 21-6 with 10:32 left.

Robinson added to the lead with a 45-yard field goal making the score 24-6 with 4:36 left in the third.

Frostburg State also recorded four sacks in the game and held the NJAC's leading rusher JOHN DISTEFANO to just 15 yards on 14 carries. The Bobcats limited MSU to minus-8
yards rushing in the game.

Linebacker JOSHUA BETTS and JABARI GARVIN had seven tackles apiece for Montclair State, which also recorded four sacks in the game raising its league-leading total to 37. JOE FALATO and NICK VOLPE had 1.5 apiece. Falato upped his season total to 10 making him the first Red Hawks to post a double-digit sack campaign since Ray Meyer had 11 in 2003.

MSU closes out its season on Saturday, November 12 in Union, NJ at Kean University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Alumni Stadium.
