Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight; Beats TCNJ, 57-49.

Sire Scores 12, Tobie 11 for MSU

Ewing, NJ – Sophomore forward KATIE SIRE scored 12 points while guard KATE TOBIE added 11 and five assists as Montclair State stretched its winning streak to three with a 57-49 victory at The College of New Jersey on Monday evening.

ERICA SNOW added nine points in a reserve role as the Red Hawks (14-6, 10-3 NJAC) outscored the Lions (10-10, 6-7 NJAC) 15-5 in the second quarter building an 11-point halftime lead. The win helped MSU sweep the season series from the Lions as it extended its winning streak against TCNJ to 11 games. Montclair leads the all-time series, 47-30.

TCNJ jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter after Nikki Schott hit with 3:56 to play in the first quarter. After scoring just two points in the first six minutes, Montclair countered with a 13-2 run, including the last 10 points of the period to take a one-point lead, 15-14 after the first. RACHAEL KRAUSS connected from behind the arc with 11 seconds left to put MSU in front.

The Red Hawk run continued into the second with the first six points. Tobie scored on a layup for a 21-14 lead. New Jersey's Dana Kim ended the run with a three pointer however Snow buried back-to-back triples for a 27-17 Montclair lead with 3:31 to play. Tobie also drilled a long-range three allowing Montclair State to head into the break with 30-19 advantage.

A ZOE CURTIS layup early in the third boosted the MSU lead to 34-23. The Lions got within seven points twice, but a free throw by TAYLOR HARMON and layup from KIARRA DILLARD at the final buzzer made the score 41-31.

TCNJ would only get as close as eight points in the fourth quarter.

Harmon and Krauss each finished with seven points with Harmon grabbing five rebounds. SAGE BENNETT had seven boards for the Red Hawks.

MSU returns to action on Wednesday, February with a short trip to Wayne, NJ for a 6:00 pm NJAC matchup with local rival William Paterson.
