Three-Point Barrage Leads Women's Basketball Past NJCU, 79-44

Red Hawks Hit 12 From Behind the Arc for 7th Straight Win

Jersey City, NJ – Junior RACHAEL KRAUSS and ZOE CURTIS led a three-point barrage, each hitting four times from behind the arc as Montclair State cruised to a 79-44 win at New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.

Curtis scored 14 points with Krauss adding 12 as the Red Hawks (18-6) won their seventh straight and stayed atop the NJAC standings heading into the regular-season finale. MSU is 14-3 overall, tied with Stockton University with the two teams set to meet at the Panzer Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 17 at 6pm. The two are a half-game in front of Rowan (13-3) which plays at Rutgers-Newark on Saturday evening. The Profs host William Paterson on Wednesday.

Sharaunda Feitdkou pumped in a game-high 20 points for the Gothic Knights (1-22, 0-17 NJAC). Desree Johnson, the lone senior for NJCU, added 10 points.

Montclair set a season-high with 13 three points, the second-best single-game total in program history and most since 12 triples versus William Paterson in January 2014. The Red Hawks' all-time record is 15 against Rutgers-Newark in January 1995.

Krauss and Curtis each connected three times in the first as MSU, which never trailed in the game, closed out the first quarter with a 7-2 run to take control. Leading 16-13, TAYLOR HARMON hit from behind the arc and YAZMINE LACEY followed with a layup for a 21-15 advantage with 1:19 to go in the opening period. TIARRA DILLARD added two free throws with less than a minute remaining as MSU led 23-15 after one.

The three-pointers were falling in the second as KATIE SIRE opened the period with one and another from Krauss with 7:42 left pushed the lead to 31-18. KIARRA DILLARD later put in a layup and a three from Curtis doubled to score to 36-18 with 4:54 to play. Curtis would add two more three pointers and back-to-back three-point goals from ERICA SNOW ballooned the lead to 48-20 with 72 seconds to go before halftime.

Montclair State had the hot shooting hand connecting on 15-of-27 (56 percent) from the field, including 11-of-20 from behind the arc (55 percent). MSU also made 7-of-9 from the foul line.

The Red Hawks got scoring contributions from all 14 players. Sire and Harmon had nine apiece with Snow tallying six. KATE TOBIE, SAGE BENNETT and KIARRA DILLARD chipped in with five points apiece for MSU. Lacey led Montclair with six rebounds while Curtis grabbed five.

Montclair State swept the season series with the Gothic Knights, beating NJCU for the 26th consecutive game. MSU now leads the all-time series, 57-3.
