BROOKE POWERS and sophomores
ALANA LUNA and
TINA CIACCIARELLI each drove in two runs as Montclair State, bouncing back from a one-run loss earlier in the day, closed out its trip to the Rebel Spring Games with a 10-2 win over Farmingdale State on Friday afternoon.
The Red Hawks, who lost to Defiance College 5-4 earlier in the day, finished out their spring trip to Florida at 6-4. Montclair State returns home for its first games at the MSU Softball Stadium against Hunter College on Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 pm.
Farmingdale State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Allison Daily lofted a sacrifice fly. Montclair responded with the next six runs. Luna doubled home the first run in the second and later scored as
VICTORIA SOOHOO singled for the 2-1 MSU lead.
The Red Hawks added four runs in the third.
ALI WALEK singled scoring
NOEL HODGINS and Luna collected her second RBI on a base hit. Ciacciarelli added a two-run single giving Montclair State a 6-1 lead. The Rams got a run back in the fourth but Hodgins' RBI single in MSU's half of the inning pushed the margin back to 7-2.
VICTORIA GEHRING drove in a run in the fifth before Powers ended the contest with a two-run single.
LAUREN BOOTH (1-1) got the victory as she pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief allowing a run and four hits. She struck out four and walked two. Hodgins led the 16-hit MSU attack going 4-for-4. Gehring, Powers, Luna and Ciaccciarelli all registered two.
In the earlier contest, Powers doubled home a run in the first inning giving MSU a 1-0 lead over Defiance, which then took advantage of a Red Hawk error in the third to plate five runs, the big hit a two run double by Jackie Hartman.
Montclair mounted a comeback with a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Ciacciarelli and sac fly in the seventh from
JENNA MANCINI. Ciacciarelli added another run in the inning on a fielder's choice however Defiance was able to get the next out to pick up the victory.
Powers, who suffered the hard-luck loss, had two hits along with Gehring and Stamile.
