Montclair, NJ - Junior midfielder
FRANCESCA VERRONE scored four times with
LINDSAY LARE adding three goals as Montclair State picked up its second straight NJAC victory with a 17-6 triumph over Stockton University at Sprague Field on Saturday.
CHELSEA ORBAN, Alex DiPiero and
AVIANA PARAGGIO each had two goals for the Red Hawks, who improved to 9-5 overall while squaring its NJAC record at 2-2. Sky Mahoney-Kendra scored twice for the Ospreys, who fell to 12-3 on the year, 3-2 in the NJAC.
Lare snapped a scoreless game 6:57 in finishing off a feed from Orban. Stockton got the next two goals 30 seconds apart to take its only lead of the contest. Mahoney-Kendra tied the game with 19:52 left with Mary Schmid getting the next score for a 2-1 Osprey lead.
Verrone tied the game seven minutes later with her first goal starting a five-goal run by the Red Hawks. Lare connected on back-to-back scores, the latter with 8:39 left making the score 4-2. DiPiero finished off a feed from
SERENA HITCHINS with 3:45 left and a
KARA CRAMPTON goal with 98 seconds to go before halftime helped MSU to a 6-2 lead at the break.
Mahoney-Kendra opened the second half with a goal however Montclair tallied the next four.
KASEY MAGUIRE scored with 26:45 to play and Verrone ripped off two in a row for a 9-3 lead.
JESSICA ANDREULA scored off a free-position attempt with 18:36 left giving the Red Hawks a seven-goal cushion.
Stockton scored two of the next three goals to get within 11-5 before MSU put the game away with four straight goals for a commanding 15-5 advantage. Hitchins and Paraggio had one goal apiece with Orban, who also had three draws, scoring the next two.
Maguire and Hitchins each had a goal and assist for Montclair State. Maguire also added eight draws, five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
MEREDITH KING added four caused turnovers with
NICOLE FRANCIS and Hitchins recording three and two respectively. Goalkeepers
REBECCA MYERS and
ALEXANDRA TEPPER made two saves each.
The Red Hawks return to action Tuesday, April 26 hosting Kean University at Sprague Field beginning at 7:00 pm. It will be senior day as the Red Hawks honor their eight seniors - Francis, Maguire, Myers, Tepper, Crampton, King, Hitchins and DiPiero.
