Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State softball team dropped both ends of their NJAC doubleheader at The College of New Jersey on Friday afternoon. The Red Hawks (20-16, 4-12 NJAC) fell 8-5 in the opener before suffering a 9-1 setback in the nightcap.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Game 1. VICTORIA GEHRING was hit by a pitch to open the game and NOEL HODGINS put down a bunt single. A ground out moved both runners up before LIA STAMILE singled to right bringing home both runners for a 2-0 MSU lead. LAUREN BOOTH reached on a fielder's choice and went to second on a passed ball. Luna then drove a pitch over the wall giving Montclair an early four-run cushion.

But the Lions got those runs back in the bottom of the second and took the lead in third on an RBI single by Jess Santelli. Jess McGuire added a run-scoring single in the fourth and an RBI by Steph Vuono in the fifth made the score 7-4. Jamie Purcell recorded the final TCNJ (24-13, 11-5 NJAC) run on a base hit.

Montclair scored a run in the seventh as BROOKE POWERS drew a walk with the bases loaded pulling MSU within three however a fly out and ground out ended the game.

Sam Platt (14-3) got the victory allowing five runs and nine hits, striking out two and walking one. Sara Bielamowicz registered the final three outs for the save. SAM KEATING (8-8) suffered the loss for Montclair State.

Hodgins had three hits for Montclair with Stamile and TINA CIACCIARELLI each getting two.

Gehring's infield single in the second inning of the nightcap tied the game at 1-1. But that would be all the scoring for MSU as the Lions scored twice in the third, once in the fourth and breaking the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Katie Hourihan (6-5) got the victory giving up an unearned run along with four hits. Powers (8-7) took the loss for MSU.

The Red Hawks close out their season on Saturday, April 30 at home against Kean beginning at 1:00 pm.
