Men's Lacrosse Powers Past Kean into Skyline Title Game, 17-3

Red Hawks to Face Stockton for Conference Crown, NCAA Berth

Montclair, NJ - Senior CONNOR CUNNINGHAM scored four goals and added two assists while BRETT MANGAN added three scores helping top-seeded Montclair State power past No. 4 seed Kean University 17-3 in the semifinals of the Skyline Conference Tournament at Sprague Field on Wednesday.

SHAUN STERNER added two goals and three assists for the Red Hawks (11-6), who extended their winning streak to seven games with their second victory over the Cougars in two weeks. The win put MSU into the Skyline championship game for the ninth straight season. Montclair, which has captured the last seven league titles, will host No. 2 Stockton University at Sprague Field on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm. The winner will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament which begins next week.

It will be a rematch of last year's championship contest won by MSU, 11-4. Stockton reached the final by holding off third-seeded Farmingdale State 10-9 in Galloway Township on Wednesday.

The Red Hawks and Cougars met for the seventh time in Skyline Tournament play with Montclair now holding a 6-1 lead in those contests after Wednesday's victory. Cunningham set up RYAN TOTIN for the game's first goal and then scored a minute later for a 2-0 lead with 10:23 left. BRADY WULSTER added to the lead with just over three mintues remaining and a goal by ROB SKEELS put MSU in front 4-0.

Matt Brodley broke the streak with a well-placed shot off a wild scrum on the faceoff getting the Cougars on the board and then found Matt Speciale 22 seconds later as Kean closed within 4-2 at the end of the period.

Cunningham would start a dominant second quarter for the Red Hawks with his second tally 1:22 in. Wulster finished off a feed from DON FINN who assisted on Mangan's man-up goal with 8:25 left for an 8-2 MSU advantage. Mangan scored again with Cunningham getting the hat trick with 4:30 to go as MSU cruised into halftime with a 9-2 lead.

The Red Hawks held possession for a majority of the period and outshot the Cougars 15-2 holding Kean without a shot for nearly 11 minutes.

ZACH SCHRECK and Kean's Eric Tablot traded goals to start the second half before Montclair scored the final six, including three to close out the third quarter. Cunningham got his fourth with Finn adding another for a 12-3 lead. Mangan netted his third with 66 seconds left with Sterner scoring five seconds before the horn giving MSU a 14-3 lead.

Sterner had a hand in all three goals in the fourth scored the first before setting up SEAN STADTLANDER and DYLAN HENINGBURG on the last two goals.

Finn finished with a goal and two assists as Montclair had 10 different goal scorers in the game. LUCAS JONES stopped seven shots while BLASE MANTINEO put together another dominant faceoff performance winning 18-of-22 with eight ground balls. RYAN YOUNG and STEVE DANYLUK each caused a pair of turnovers in addition to registering seven and four ground balls, respectively.
