No. 14 Men's Soccer Pitches Shutout in Season Opener, 3-0

Bziukiewicz Scores Twice in Win Over MCLA

Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder DAMIAN BZIUKIEWICZ scored twice while LUCAS TERCI added the third goal lifting 14th-ranked Montclair State to a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the season opener for both teams on Wednesday evening.

The two All-Americans helped the Red Hawks (1-0) to their sixth consecutive season-opening victory. Montclair, which has now won all three-meetings with MCLA, is 18-0-3 in its last 21 Opening Days having last loss coming in 1995 against Elmira College.

Kamron Anderson stopped 10 shots for the Trailblazers (0-1).

Montclair wasted very little time getting on the board as Bziukiewicz, the two-time NJAC Midfielder of the Year scored 51 seconds into the contest.  It would be the only score of the opening period despite the Red Hawks 12-1 advantage in shots. Anderson made five saves in the first 45 minutes.

The one-goal lead would remain on the board until the final eight minutes when Montclair twice in a 75-second span. Terci got the first goal in his return to the pitch after missing the final 15 games of 2015. The 2014 All-American finished off a feed from sophomore KEVIN SIMEK with 7:32 to play. Bziukiewicz followed with his second for the final margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper MIKE SAALFRANK made three saves to record his first shutout of the year and sixth career blanking in 22 outings.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 3 when it faces host Roger Williams University in the RWU/Squad Locker Classic in Bristol, RI. MSU takes on Roger Williams at 1:30 pm and will face Rhode Island College on Sunday, September 4 at 11:00 am.
