Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rose, Bziukiewicz Lead Men's Soccer Past Rutgers-Camden, 3-1

Saalfrank Eight Saves as MSU Wins Second Straight

Montclair, NJ – Seniors DAMIAN BZIUKIEWICZ and AARON ROSE each collected a goal and assist as Montclair State knocked off Rutgers-Camden, 3-1 for its first NJAC victory of the season on Saturday evening.

Goalkeeper MIKE SAALFRANK stopped eight shots as the Red Hawks (8-2, 1-1 NJAC) won the rematch of last year's conference title game captured by the Scarlet Raptors (4-2-2, 1-1 NJAC) in penalty kicks.

Clayton Taylor had a goal for Rutgers-Camden, which has dropped two straight following a season-opening six-game unbeaten streak.

Taylor gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season. Steve Karakitsios served a perfect corner kick feed from the left side across the front of the goal. Taylor was able to get a head on the ball and placed it inside the right post for the match's first score.

Montclair State tied the game in the 32nd minute. Bziukiewicz made a run down the right side before sliding a cross to Rose who banged the pass inside the right post knotting the contest at 1-1. It was Rose's second of the season.

Less than three minutes later Bziukiewicz and Rose reversed roles giving MSU the lead. Rose gathered a ball deep in the middle of box and tapped a pass to over to Bzukiewicz for the goal with 10:39 lead.

In the second half, the Red Hawks would go up by two thanks to a fortunate deflection for an own goal. Bziukiewicz sent a ball into the middle for an oncoming forward. A Raptor defender tried to flip the pass away however it caromed off his foot into the goal giving MSU the 3-1 advantage with 26:43 left.

Saalfrank made that lead hold up with six saves down the stretch. The sophomore snared a blistering shot by Patrick Grudnik at the 80:06 mark and made two back-to-back saves with four minutes remaining. Karakitsios ripped a shot from outside the top of the box that was caught by Saalfrank who then punched away an attempt by Walter Barreto with 2:24 to go.

The Red Hawks outshot the Raptors 20-10 in the contest.

Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, September 28 hosting Kean University at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 7:00 pm.
