HAYLEY MERRILL posted 13 kills while classmate
MADISON MAUTE added 10 as Montclair State stretched its winning streak to eight games with a three-set win over Rutgers-Camden on Tuesday.
REBECCA MATASKER had seven kills and
NATALIA MAJKUT six lifting the Red Hawks (13-2, 3-1 NJAC) to a 25-15, 25-15, 25-14 triumph.
Montclair led 13-12 in first set before getting some breathing room with three straight points thanks to a trio of errors by Scarlet Raptors (9-9, 2-2 NJAC). Leading 19-15, MSU closed out the set with the final six points. Matasker had a kill and
CAITLIN AARTS served up two aces before Merrill finished it off with a kill for the 25-15 win.
Montclair State scored seven of the first nine points of the second set and led 12-4 after Maute put down a kill. A four-point run by Rutgers-Camden closed the gap to 17-11 however two kills from Merrill restored the lead to 20-13. Merrill added another kill and an ace with Maute nailing down the final point as Montclair led 2-0 after the 25-15 win.
Majkut and Merrill each had kills in a three-point run that snapped a 6-6 tie in the third set. The lead grew to 12-7 following a kill by Majkut and a later kill by
COURTNEY MATLOCK extended the advantage to 19-12. A block by Majkut and Matasker pushed the lead to 24-13 before Majkut ended the match with her final kill.
Matlock finished with five kills while
ASHLEY GRIFFITH collected 33 assists along with eight digs.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 1 with a home tri-match beginning at 11:00 am. MSU will face Lehman College in the first contest and then wrap up the day's action at 3:00 pm versus United States Merchant Marine Academy.
