Men's Basketball Drops Second Straight; Falls at No. 10 Ramapo, 80-68

Roberson Double-Double for MSU

Mahwah, NJ – Sophomore JORDAN ROBERSON posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds however a quick 10-point burst in the second half by No. 10 Ramapo propelled the Roadrunners past Montclair State 80-68 at the Bradley Center on Wednesday evening.

BRANDON CHANNER and JARRETT BOGUS had 12 and 10 points respectively for the Red Hawks (9-9, 6-5 NJAC), who fell back to the .500 mark with their second consecutive loss.

MSU fell behind early and trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, the last at 18-10 with 9:33 to go as Ramapo's Nick Stanek scored on a layup after a Montclair turnover. The Red Hawks battled back with an 8-0 run of its own, including back-to-back three-pointers by JUSTIN PORTER and Bogus knotting the score at 18-18.

Ramapo pushed back into the lead taking a 27-22 advantage until MSU countered with an 11-2 run. Bogus had four of those points with a Roberson jumper in the paint giving Montclair a 33-29 lead with 3:05 to play before halftime. The Roadrunners scored the next seven points swinging the momentum back in their favor but DANIEL RAMIS drained a three-pointer with 20 seconds knotting the game at 36-36. Josh Ford connected from behind the arc just before the buzzer as Ramapo led 39-36 at the break.

The back-and-forth continued into the second half with Montclair State getting out to a 49-44 lead after Channer hit a short jumper. Channer would score again a minute later extending the margin to 51-46 with 15:43 to go.

Ramapo then went on a its decisive run as Cory Soanes scored six points while Thomas Bonacum, who reached the 1,000-point plateau, added the other four giving the Roadrunners a 56-51 lead with 12:43 left.

Montclair State pulled within 71-67 on a Roberson jumper with 4:30 remaining but three free throws and three-pointer by Stanek boosted the deficit back to 77-67 with just over two minutes remaining.

Porter and VINCE ANFIELD had eight points apiece for Montclair State, which got six rebounds from Channer and six points, three assists and three steals by ISAIAH CHANNER.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, January 28 hosting Rowan University at the Panzer Athletic Center beginning at 1:00 pm.
