Montclair, NJ – A long layoff did not prevent from the Montclair State swimming and diving teams from another solid performance as the Red Hawks swept a dual meet with FDU-Florham at the Panzer Pool on Tuesday afternoon.
Returning to action for the first time in a month, both squads posted their third straight victories and moved to 5-2 on the year. The MSU men topped the Devils 147-80 while the women registered a 117-62 victory.
COURTNEY MUNRO and
CHARLES COBBERTT each won a pair of individual events. Munro's victories came in the free style as she captured the 200 event in a time of 2:05.38 before coming back to win the 100 in a time of 56.82 seconds. Cobbertt was victorious in the 100 butterfly recording a first-place time of 54.34 seconds. He added a second win in the 200 individual medley clocking in at 2:03.99.
JAMES SINGEWALD was a winner in the 50 backstroke (26.17 seconds) while
KEVIN CLAUSS earned a win in the 50 breaststroke (28.73 seconds).
KEVIN GIBSON took top honors in the 50 freestyle (22.70 seconds) and
BRENDAN TURNER was a winner in the 100 Freestyle (50.90 seconds).
STEVEN ROTH swam 23.96 for first place in the 50 butterfly.
Montclair's 200 medley relay team of Singewald, Clauss, Roth and Cobbertt posted a time of 1:42.45 to win that event.
For the women,
NATALIE WALL won the 50 backstroke in a time of 31.15 seconds while
MARTHA PENDER took first in the 50 breaststroke (34.57 seconds).
MARGAUX WINCHOCK was a winner in the 100 butterfly (1:03.17) with
CHRISTINA CUSMANO posting a time of 25.60 seconds in capturing the 50 freestyle.
ERIN CANNON swam 2:26.30 for first in the 200 IM.
Winchock, Pender,
ALLISON BARTH and
ASHLEY SINGEWALD combined to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 2:03.12.
Montclair State now takes another mini break and is back to the pool on Friday, January 13 at home against Mount St. Mary (NY) at 4:00 pm.
