Montclair, NJ - The second half of the season begins on Saturday and Montclair State will open it with its annual Homecoming contest taking on Salisbury University in an NJAC matchup.
The Red Hawks won their second straight contest last week beating TCNJ, 21-17 in Ewing. Montclair battled back from an early 14-point deficit.
WILLIE BARR scored a pair of touchdowns - a 26-yard run and 40-yard reception. Montclair State's defense shut down the Lions offense after the rough start and recorded six sacks while picking off three passes.
DYLAN ELLIOTT,
JABARI RAY GARVIN and
SHAON STEPHENSON each had one interception.
CHRIS PALMA registered two sacks.
The Sea Gulls won their fourth straight game beating Christopher Newport 17-7 on Homecoming. Salisbury's defense held its opponent to seven points for the second straight week. Senior defensive back Dakarai Ellis led the effort with 12 tackles, five of which were solo stops, while junior linebacker Tom Montag had 11 tackles. Dandre Dennis and Brady Curley each scored a touchdown while kicker Alex Potocko connected on a 34-yard field goal.
This will be the 12th meeting between the teams with Montclair State holding an 8-3 advantage. After Salisbury won the first meeting in 1986 (13-7), Montclair reeled off the next eight wins including six straight before the series was put on hold in 1992. They would meet again in 2005 and 2006 and renewed their rivlary as conference foes in 2015. Salisbury has taken the last two matchups.
