Men's Soccer Scores Two in Second-Half to Beat William Paterson

Red Hawks uses second-half to put away William Paterson

Montclair, NJ - Men's soccer bounced back on Wednesday night against William Paterson beating the Pioneers 3-1 to improve to 10-4-1, 4-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference.

Sophomore midfielder DIMITRI MATARAS scored his third goal of the season in the 4' off a flick inside the box from defender JORGE DE LA BANDERA.

The Pioneers answered with a goal of their own a minute later when senior JP Gonzales was knocked down inside the box for a penalty. Gonzales sent goalkeeper MIKE SAALFRANK the wrong way to equalize heading into the half. It would be the only blemish on a solid night for Saalfrank, who made eight saves the rest of the way..

At the start of the second period, MSU went on a counter attack led by playmaker RAFAEL TERCI, who made an excellent pass to KEVIN SIMEK with the latter tucking the ball inside the near post who a 2-1 lead 29 seconds into the new half.

The Red Hawks made it a two-goal in the 65' when leading scorer MIKE TARANTO pounced on a loose ball and ripped a shot from the left wing for his 10th of the year.

William Paterson fell to 9-4-1, 3-3 in league play.

Montclair Sate continues their conference slate on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to Ewing to face the College of New Jersey at 1 pm.
