Montclair, NJ -The Montclair State women's soccer lost a heartbreaker in overtime on Saturday afternoon falling to No. 3 The College of New Jersey, 3-2.
The Red Hawks (6-4-4, 4-1-2 NJAC) became the first team to put a goal in against the Lions this season when MSU's leading goal scorer
EMILY BEENDERS finished off a flicked pass into the box by
IMANI THOMPSON snapping a scoreless tie two minutes into the second half. TCNJ would however equalize the score in the 56' after Montclair State failed to clear the ball. Taylor Nolan seized on the opportunity with her first goal of the year knotting the contest at 1-1.
The Lions took the lead three minutes later as Alexa Pristritto converted on a free-kick, beating goalkeeper
PHOEBE BLEDSOE, who would make 11 saves in the contest. Montclair answered in the 76' when midfielder
CHRISTINE MAYORGA placed the perfect thru ball pass to
MICHAELA KNOBLOCK, who finished off the feed for her third goal of the year.
For the third consecutive game the Red Hawks were extended to overtime however Montclair State was whistled for a handball in the box six minutes into the extra period giving the Lions the chance to win the game. Forward Christine Levering capitalized, delivering the game-winning keeping TCNJ perfect on the year at 13-0, 7-0 in conference play.
Montclair State is back in action on Thursday October 19, at MSU Soccer Park against Mount St. Mary with kickoff set at 7:00 PM
