Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State men's soccer team errupted for seven goals as the Red Hawks posted their fifth straight victory with a 7-1 win over Yeshiva University at MSU Soccer Park on Monday evening.
Montclair State (8-3-1) were the superior team in the first-half generating 15 shots and scoring three. Defender
JORGE DE LA BANDERA opened the scoring in the 14' with a powerful header from midfielder
KEVIN SIMEK's corner-kick.
Forward
MIKE TARANTO, MSU's leading goal scorer, gave Montclair a 2-0 lead as he blasted a shot from 25-yards away. Defender
STEFAN KOROMAN provided his team leading fifth assist in a cross to Simek, who calmly headed it in for his third goal of the season in the 16'.
The Maccabees scored a minute later from a free-kick just out of the 18-yard box to cut the deficit to 3-1 at half.
Just like the first period, De La Bandera's head opened the scoring in the second-half just 35 seconds in from another corner by freshman
GUISEPPE MARGIOTTIELLO.
Freshman forward
CHAZ BURNETT, who earned NJAC Rookie of the Week honors earlier in the day, converted a penalty kick in the 62' for his fifth goal of the season. MSU's pressure forced the Maccabees to an own goal in the 67', before freshman
JOSE RODRIGUEZ netted his first collegiate goal with
MATT NETO collecting the assist.
Montclair State continues its homestand on Wednesday, October 4 hosting Mitchell College at 7:00 PM.
