Montclair, NJ - Back home at Sprague Field, Montclair State will look to shake off a two-game losing streak when it hosts first-place and 14th-ranked Wesley College on Saturday. The game will mark the match up of the No. 1 and No. 2 active winningest coaches in Division III in Wesley's Mike Drass (225) and MSU's Rick Giancola (237).
The Red Hawks will look to bounce back after suffering their second straight loss last Saturday at No. 16 Frostburg State. Junior
HUNTER DALY connected on his seventh field of the season for MSU while
TAJ HUGGINS had four receptions for 59 yards. Defensively, linebacker
NICK CATALANO recorded 12 tackles while
MAURO ALTAMURA and
SHAON STEPHENSON added eight and six, respectively.
NICK VOLPE and Jake Weber had one sack apiece with Dylan Elliot intercepting his third pass of the year.
Wesley remained on a roll winning its sixth straight as the Wolverines knocked off Rowan, 34-3 at home last week. The Wesley offense recorded 444 yards of total offense. Wide receiver James Okike reeled in eight passes from Khaaliq Burroughs for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Burroughs was 22-for-29 passing for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Burroughs also ran the ball six times for 29 yards. Running back E.J. Lee ran the ball 19 times for 108 yards and three touchdowns.
This will be the seventh meeting between the Wolverines and Red Hawks with each team posting three victories. Montclair State captured the first two in 1997 and 1998 and recorded a 27-26 triumph in Dover in 2007. Wesley owns the current win streak, including a 37-14 victory at Drass Field in 2016.
