Staten Island, NY - The Montclair State men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted the identical winning score as the Red Hawks swept their dual meet with College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon.
KEVIN GIBSON broke the CSI pool record in the 1000 freestyle as the men registered a 117-100 victory over the Dolphins improving to 3-2 on the season. Meanwhile, freshman
GENNA BREWER won two individual events as MSU registered a 117-64 victory over the Dolphins to up its record to 4-2 on the year.
Gibson led a 1-2-3 finish by Montclair in the 1000 freestyle as he broke the pool record by nearly 12 seconds. Gibson recorded a winning time of 10:19.16, breaking the previous standard of 10:30.40.
ANTHONY KALAFATIS was second (10:54.78) with
KEVIN HENNINGSEN placing third with a time of 11:00.23.
Gibson would also be part of the winning 200 medley relay teaming with
JAMES SINGEWALD,
DANIEL BORJAS and
PATRIK JAGIELSKI for a winning time of 1:44.54.
BRENDAN TURNER was a winner in the 200 freestyle (1:53.48) with the Red Hawks sweeping the Top 3 spots in the 50 freestyle.
CHARLES COBBERTT was the winner in the event at 22.91 seconds with
MICK VAN OOSTEN (23.59) and
MYLES UPCHURCH (24.52) finishing second and third, respectively.
Montclair State would place first, second and third in the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle. Kalafatis won the 100 butterfly with
THEODORE KOUSOULIS (59.20) and
ISAAC NITRO (1:03.44) placing second and third. Singewald swam 53.26 seconds to capture the 100 free. Upchurch was second at 53.30 seconds and Borjas third (53.70).
KEVIN CLAUSS posted a time of 57.73 seconds to take top honors in the 100 backstroke.
Brewer won the 1000 freestyle (11:14.49) leading a sweep of the Top 3 in the event.
EMILY ROTHAMEL was second (11:41.66) with
CATHERINE COOPER third (12:42.05).
ERIN CANNON,
MADISON FRANKE,
DANI ZIMMERMAN and
CHRISTINA CUSMANO combined on a time of 1:58.02 to win the 200 medley relay.
Franke added a win in the 200 individual medley (2:23.66) while
COURTNEY MUNRO going 2:05.49 to place first in the 200 freestyle. Brewer's second win came in the 100 fly (1:02.68) with
MARGAUX WINCHOCK swimming 1:03.44 to win the 100 backstroke.
Diver
GRACE NIELSEN won the 1-meter even with a score of 229.57 points.
PONSEE IBRAHIM was second with 172.80 points.
The Red Hawks are now off until Friday, November 17 when it takes part in the three-day Franklin & Marshall Invite.
