DANIEL RAMIS and
MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE combined for 27 points and 13 rebounds as Montclair State used a strong first half to knock off Maine-Presque Isle in the third-place game of the Colby Classic on Sunday.
Ramis had 14 points and eight rebounds with Mitchell-White going for 13 and five caroms as the Red Hawks (4-1) shot 52 percent and raced out to a 22-point lead at intermission.
Ramis scored 12 of his 14 in the opening period when Montclair shot 14-of-27 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the arc. Ramis connected on all four of his three-point attempts.
MSU scored the first eight points of the contest and led 13-3 after
EDDIE EMEDOH, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, sank two free throws 2:41 into the first half.
KAAN YILMAZ made it a 19-3 advantage four minutes later and a Ramis three-pointer doubled the score a 32-16 with just under nine minutes left. Sophomore
DREW WALKER connected from long range with 4:54 left giving MSU its largest lead at 40-16.
MALACHI SMYTHE hit a layup in the final minute as the Red Hawks took a 43-21 lead into the break.
Maine-Presque Isle would whittle that liead doe to 53-48 with 7:25 to go in the second half. However Mitchell-White hit once from the line,
JOVANNI CHATHAM drilled a three and
JOSEPH RADI hit a layup
restoring the lead to 59-48 with six minutes left. The Owls (2-3) got within five again inside five minutes remaining but Mitchell-White converted a three-point play pushing the lead back to 62-54.
JARRETT BOGUS collected nine points and five rebounds for Montclair State while Emedoh posted eight points and eight rebounds. Radi chipped in with eight points for the Red Hawks, who outrebounded Maine-Presque Isle, 50-28 on the boards.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, November 29 with another road contest. The Red Hawks will be at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, NJ for a 7:30 pm matchup with fifth-ranked Ramapo College.
