Poughkeepsie, NY – The Montclair State men's swimming and diving team closed out its second consecutive nine-win campaign as the Red Hawks knocked off Vassar College 126.5-73.5 on Wednesday evening.
MSU won nine events as it finished its dual meet schedule at 9-3 overall. It is the fourth time under head coach Brian McLaughlin that Montclair won nine meets in a season and the first back-to-back nine-win campaigns.
JAMES SINGEWALD,
KEVIN CLAUSS,
KEVIN HENNINGSEN and
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI combined on a time of 1:39.74 helping MSU to a victory in the 200 medley relay.
DAN KNEPPLE,
NICANDRO DONADIO and Romanowski went 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle with Knepple swimming 10:02.76 to take the top spot. Donadio and Romanowski posted times of 10:24.27 and 10:31.69 respectively.
CHARLES COBBERTT swam 1:46.97 to win the 200 freestyle with
BRENDAN TURNER recording a time of 23.35 seconds for first place in the 50 freestyle.
STEVEN ROTH claimed the No. 1 position in the 100 butterfly (52.32 seconds) and Clauss earned a win in the 100 backstroke (58.34 seconds).
MITCHELL LAYNE led a 1-2-3 showing by the Red Hawks in the 500 freestyle (5:05.48) with
ANTHONY KALAFATIS (51.42 seconds) out-touching SIngewald (51.45 seconds) to win the 100 freestyle by .03 seconds.
BENJAMIN HERNANDEZ won the 3-meter diving event with a score of 146.25 points.
The Red Hawks are now off and return to action in the Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Conference Championships. The first of the three-day competition is set for Friday, February 17 at the Sonny Werblin Center at Rutgers University.
