Early Hot-Shooting by Stockton Dooms Men's Basketball, 69-54

Red Hawks Topped by Ospreys for Second Time

Montclair, NJ – Senior guard Tom Catanoso scored a career-high 21 points, including a couple of three-pointers as Stockton University used an early hot-shooting touch as the Ospreys knocked off Montclair State 69-54 at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday.

Kashaun Barnes had 17 points and six rebounds off the bench as the Ospreys (12-9, 6-8 NJAC) defeated MSU for the second time in six days. The Ospreys posted a 71-66 win on Monday evening in Galloway, NJ.

Sophomore JORDAN ROBERSON had nine points and a game-high 15 rebounds for Montclair State, which fell back to the .500 mark at 11-11 overall, 8-7 in the NJAC. The Red Hawks have alternated wins and losses in their last six games.

Montclair's JARRETT BOGUS scored the first basket of the game however the Ospreys scored the next 10 and led 16-4 with 14:42 left after Catanoso and Steve Ferebee connected on back-to-back three-pointers. Catanoso had three of the eight makes behind the arc in the first half for Stockton, which moved in front 25-15 with 9:55 left after Marcus Harmon drained a triple.

The Red Hawks got the lead back to six, 25-19 after a JUSTIN PORTER bucket however Barnes answered with a three and another by Brandon Hamilton with 6:27 to go pushed the Osprey advantage back to 31-21. Two free throws by MSU's VINCE ANFIELD dipped the lead back up double-digits at 31-23 before Stockton closed out the half with a 12-6 run taking a 43-29 lead into the break.

Stockton made more shots behind the three-point line (8) than inside (7) as it shot 45 percent for the half (15-of-33).

Brandon Hamilton opened the second half for the Ospreys with a three and the visitors led 48-31 after Darius Jerkins scored on a layup with 18:16 left.

Montclair would whittle the lead back to 59-50 with 4:41 to play when DANIEL RAMIS hit from long range but Catanoso answered with two from the foul line. EDDIE EMEDOH got that back on a layup and the teams traded free throws leaving MSU on the wrong side of a 63-54 score with 1:38 remaining. 

Stockton then closed out the game with six straight makes at the foul line, the last four by Barnes.

Porter led the Red Hawks with 13 points while Emedoh and Chatham each had nine and eight respectively.

Montclair State is back in action on Wednesday, February 8 in Jersey City, NJ taking on No. 22 New Jersey City at 8:00 pm. MSU upset the nationally-ranked Gothic Knights 48-46 at the Panzer Athletic Center on January 4.
