Men's Lacrosse Falters Against No. 19 Denison, 13-4

Red Hawks Suffer Fifth Straight Loss

Sparks, MD – Jake Waxter scored the first two goals of the game and No. 19 Denison University pulled away in the second has the Big Red beat Montclair State, 13-4 at the US Lacrosse Headquarters on Saturday.

Spencer Butler, Owen Armstrong and Peter Pittroff each connected twice as Denison improved to 3-1 on the year. MATT HAEMMERLE, BRYAN PETERS and ALEX HAHN had goals for Montclair State, which dropped to 0-5 on the year. Four of the Red Hawks' losses this year have come against USILA Top 20 teams.

After changing of possessions for the first seven minutes, Waxter scored twice in a 47-second span, the second coming with 5:41 left in the opening period giving the Big Red a 2-0 lead. Pittrodd added to the lead with three minutes later before MSU got on the board in a bizarre manner.

Off the ensuing faceoff, the ball was picked up by Denison's Henry DeCamp who collected the ball deep inside the defensive zone. MSU's Blaise Mantineo laid out and checked the ball out of DeCamp's stick with ball rolling into the back of the cage making the score 3-1.

Alex Paulus got the goal back for Denison late in the first quarter for a 4-1 lead before the Big Red scored all five goals in the second to take a 9-1 advantage at the half.

ALEX HAHN scored for Montclair to begin the second half however that was answered with goals from Armstrong and Spencer Butler for an 11-2 Denison lead with 33 ticks to play in the third.

RYAN YOUNG had six ground balls for Montclair State while Mantineo was 7-of-16 with four ground balls. LUCAS JONES made five saves for MSU.

The Red Hawks are now off until next Saturday, March 18 when it beings Skyline Conference play. MSU, the 8-time defending league champion, will host league newcomer Purchase College at Noon.
