Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State softball team dropped their NJAC doubleheader to Kean University on Wednesday by identical 7-3 scores.
Freshman
ELENA RADESICH had a two-run homer for the Red Hawks, who fell to 10-10 on the year, 1-3 in the conference.
In the opener, MSU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
KAYLEE POWERS led off the game with a single back through the middle and went to second on a sacrifice by
NOEL HODGINS. After a pop up,
VALENTINA CUCCI singled in the infield with Powers coming around for the first run of the game.
The Cougars (18-2, 3-1 NJAC), tied the game in the third and broke it open in the fourth with four runs for a 5-1 advantage. Montclair answered in the fifth with two runs.
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN lofted a sac fly for the first run with Cucci adding a second RBI in the game on a base hit bringing the Red Hawks within 5-3.
Kean answered that in the bottom of the inning with two runs pushing its lead back to 7-3. Montclair State would threaten in the seventh loading the bases with two outs, however a ground out ended the game.
Cucci and Powers had two hits for the Red Hawks. Cucci (1-3) took the loss in relief.
Kean jumped out to a 1-0 lead in Game 2 and another big inning, a five-run third, gave the Cougars a 6-0 advantage.
Radesich got the Red Hawks on the board in the fourth with her first career home run, a two-run shot over the center field fence. Hodgins accounted for the final Montclair State run in the seventh with an RBI on a ground out.
Powers registered another multiple-hit game going 2-for-4 with Samantha DiClementi also notching two hits. Righthander
NICOLE MAJEWSKI (3-3) suffered the loss.
Montclair is scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 6 at home against Drew University beginning at 3:00 pm.
